Collecting Sputum
Your doctor wants you to collect sputum for testing. Sputum is the thick material from deep in the lungs. You must cough deeply to get a sample out. It is not the watery fluid in your mouth or the back of your nose or throat.
PFT (Pulmonary Function Test)
PFT measures how much air and how well air moves in and out of your lungs. The test checks how your lungs work. It may be done to check for lung disease, how you respond to your treatment, or how well your lungs work before surgery.
Arrive on time for your test. The test takes about 1 hour.
EPS (Electrophysiology Study)
EPS checks the electrical system of your heart. This test is done to find why you are feeling faint or dizzy or having irregular or fast heart beats.
An adult family member or friend needs to come with you to take you home after the test. It is not safe for you to drive or leave alone.
Arrive on time for your test. The test takes 1-4 hours.
Bronchoscopy
A bronchoscopy is a test to look at your airways and lungs. A small tube is put through your nose or mouth into your lungs. This test is used to
check for lung disease or to remove mucous. A small piece of tissue may be removed and studied in the lab. This is called a biopsy.
An adult family member or friend needs to come with you to take you home after the test. It is not safe for you to drive or return home alone.
