Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is a surgery to remove a woman’s uterus. The uterus is one of the organs of the female reproductive system and is about the size of a closed hand. You can no longer have children after you have your uterus removed and you will no longer have periods (menstruate). If your ovaries are not removed, you will continue to make female hormones.

Appendectomy for a Child

Appendectomy is a surgery to remove the appendix. The appendix is a small pouch that comes off the large intestine. The appendix sometimes gets blocked and becomes infected and swollen. Signs of an infected appendix include abdominal pain in the lower right side, fever, poor appetite, nausea and vomiting. If the appendix bursts, it can make you very sick.

Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

Coronary artery bypass surgery is also called bypass surgery or open heart surgery. It is done to bypass blocked blood vessels in the heart. Coronary arteries are the blood vessels that supply the heart muscle with oxygen and nutrients. During bypass surgery, a piece of a blood vessel from the leg or chest is removed and attached to the heart around the blocked area. The blocked blood vessel remains, but blood is carried around it in the new blood vessel.
